Hypno-psychotherapy For Depression
Firstly, let me say I’ve experienced depression myself, I know what a dark place it can be to be trapped in your own head, with no relief. I didn’t use antidepressants as they weren’t routinely prescribed then like now. I learned how to get my head around my problems by myself. So now as a trained therapist, I have first-hand experience in how to help you learn to manage your depression to a much better degree, by using hypnosis and other techniques.
I haven’t just read a ‘how to’ in a book, I’ve lived it. In my experience, degrees of depression vary wildly, some people literally struggle to even get out of bed or brush their teeth where some people might just feel a deep sadness even if they can function relatively normally. I run a clinic in the East Midlands, I have helped people from all over that area.
The difference, I can make to you is this: I am a hypno-psychotherapist not just a hypnotherapist. This is a very important distinction, some studies suggest that combining hypnosis with psychotherapeutic approaches may improve outcomes for some people because hypno-psychotherapy can combine multiple other tools into the mix i.e mindfulness.
For you, as a client, that means that I have a wide range of ‘tools’ available to help with the stress and anxiety that many of my clients would say is a part of their depression.
See the studies at the bottom of the page. One is from the American Psychological Association. This study found mindful hypnotherapy may help reduce depressive symptoms
If you’re feeling depressed, don’t just accept it – take action. Generally speaking, depression is characterized by a consistently low mood over a period of more than a few weeks, and it’s when this starts to affect your day-to-day living, so that every day can seem like a struggle just to get through it.
A lot of us may also experience anxiety over money worries, or uncertainty over what’s going to happen in our lives. Stress over jobs and families can all add to the mix and many people just cannot help but succumb to it. The things in life that used to bring us joy may even seem like a pain at these times, everything can seem like too much hassle to deal with and it can just seem like you are stuck in a deep black hole, where escape looks impossible.
Hypnosis To Overcome Deep Sadness
There are many types of depression, a few of which are listed below.
– Manic (correctly called bipolar disorder) is often characterized by periods of intense mania and intense sadness. Each period may last for a day or number of days.
– Your GP may tell you that you have moderate or severe symptoms – of course people with major depressive episodes may experience suicidal thoughts, whereas people with moderate episodes may not.
– Dysthymia – people may always seem fed up or just can’t take pleasure in anything and not even realise they are suffering from this
Symptoms
If you display at least 5 of these symptoms and they are interfering with your life you may be suffering from depression:
– Significant weight loss or weight gain
– Insomnia
– Feeling worthless or guilt
– Recurring thoughts of suicide or death
– Diminished interest in pleasurable activities, particularly sex
– Not being able to think or concentrate every day for this period
– You may have trouble sleeping or you may sleep too much
Of course we may all experience some of these symptoms sometimes, so you should only treat this as a rough guide as the diagnosis is not necessarily as simple as it sounds. External events should always be taken into consideration such as the death of a loved one, or a break up of a relationship or even long term unemployment. These types of problems can lead to what is known as reactive depression.
Treatment for depression
Firstly, have you had a proper diagnosis from a medical professional or are you just feeling depressed in yourself? A professional diagnosis often helps distinguish what type of depression you have. If you are depressed then your GP may prescribe antidepressants for you. For some people these can work and they may just carry you through this phase of your life. But for others, maybe if you are reading this you may find they do not suit you personally and would like to try alternative means to improve your problem. Hypnosis along with some other life changes might help you start to turn a corner. Call for a free consultation and see how I might be able to help you.
Therapy Support Can Help During A Crisis
If you are feeling very low or in crisis, please contact your GP, NHS 111, Samaritans or emergency services immediately. Even if you can’t afford therapy and you feel this low, call me on 07428 590066 and I’d be happy to talk to you for free.
You dont have to suffer, see this review from Max (the full thing is listed in my Google reviews).
“At the time, I could not see any way out of my depression, (reworded here)…and he helped enormously in making me realise that this was a moment in time, that if I gave it time, things would turn for the better and asked “what price do you put on your mental health. After 9 weeks, I feel….. completely revitalised and energised and cannot comprehend where my depression took me to”
Now, I’m pleased to say Max is a different person, it’s massively rewarding to see that.
Changes to the way you think and act can be implemented, and the effects from that can be far reaching. What you need to remember is that much of your life is guided unconsciously and you are usually unaware of why you do this or that, hypno-psychotherapy can help you uncover why you feel the way you do.
How we think about ourselves and how we see our lives can drastically affect how much we suffer from these types of disorders. Using hypnosis you can learn new ways of thinking, and help change negative thinking patterns which can play such a crucial role in your getting better.

And a meta-analysis of hypnosis for depression shows some studies suggest hypnosis may help reduce depressive symptoms (Milling, L. S., et al., American Journal of Clinical Hypnosis, Vol. 61, No. 3, 2019)
